It use to be that people with rosacea were thought to be blushing or prey to high blood pressure, but recently the cause of the reddening skin ailment has been identified.

Rosacea is caused by a parasite that lives on the skin and around the hair follicles of 98 per cent of adults, but only causes problems in a select few. The disorder causes skin on the face to become rough lumpy and reddish, and can also cause hair loss, premature aging of the skin, enlarged pores and acne. Sometimes the nose can become bulbous.

A new product that kills the human demodex parasite is now widely available, recommended by dermatologists and pharmacists, and receiving good reviews from rosacea sufferers. It features a complete line under the brand name FaceDoctor and includes soap, shampoo and cream.

Human demodex was isolated and identified by a team of physicians in China. The parasite looks like a microscopic worm and feeds on human skin. It takes just 10 days to grow from egg to adult size and multiplies rapidly if not treated properly.

Studies have shown babies do not have the parasite at birth, but become infected shortly after being touched by other humans. The infection grows as people get older and some theories suggest the parasites may get out of hand if the immune system is out of balance of if theres too much sugar or yeast in the diet.

In the past dermatologists have recommended antibiotics, especially when acne is involved, but results have varied greatly.

After 30 years of research, the Chinese team came up with a natural remedy in the form of sea buckthorn oil combined with some other ingredients. Results are generally achieved within days.

Pharmacies now carry the FaceDoctor products designed to kill Human Demodex and restore skin.

Acne rosacea is a common skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. However, it can still cause a certain amount of anxiety if you dont know anything about the causes and symptoms of rosacea.

So heres a quick guide to acne rosacea. Hopefully it will answer all your questions about this stressful skin complaint including, what acne rosacea is, what causes it, who is affected by it and the best way to deal with the condition.

1) What is Acne Rosacea?

Acne rosacea is a potentially distressing skin condition, which is not actually a type of acne at all. It causes a weakness in the blood vessels of the face. This allows them to dilate more easily and for longer than normal (often permanently), creating a flushed appearance in the affected areas. The face is the area most commonly affected, especially the lower part of the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead.

The end result is a reddening of the skin that looks like a rash. If left untreated, the condition can become persistent and cause an overgrowth of tissue, causing your nose to swell slightly.

2) What causes it?

The cause of acne rosacea is still unknown, although there are several factors that are though to be the primary cause of this skin condition. One popular theory is that people who blush more easily are at increased risk of developing this condition. Add in stress, anxiety, aging blood vessels and the tendency to blush for extended periods can trigger rosacea. Other environmental factors such as exposure to the sun, humid weather and wind burn can aggravate the condition.

In fact, anything that affects the dilation of blood vesels can worsen the condition. Hot showers, sunlight, saunas, spicy food, alcohol, hot drinks, strenuous exercise etc. Research has also suggested that a zinc deficiency may be linked to rosacea.

3) Who does it affect?

Acne rosacea occurs almost exclusively in adults aged 30 to 60. It affects women more often than men, but when men develop the condition it tends to be more severe. There is also evidence to suggest that it runs in fair skinned families.

It can appear and disappear on more than one occasion for no apparent reason. And if not treated, the condition can last for years, become aggravated and may even become permanent.

4) What can be done about it?

At present, there is no cure for acne rosacea. Its still a relatively new condition and as such research is still underway to find a cure. So the treatment techniques that have developed are based upon keeping the symptoms under control to stop the condition from getting worse.

There are so many factors that are thought to trigger an outbreak of acne rosacea, including; alcohol, coffee, spicy foods, foods high in fat, foods that contain refined sugars, smoking and a lack of certain vitamins and nutrients such as vitamin A, zinc, beta-carotene, fibre etc. So the first step is to find your personal triggers. Pay close attention to the times when the condition flares up and try to match it to your recent actions and environment.

After that, take steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Drink plenty of water and make sure you get five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. All of these things will help to improve both your general health and the health of your skin. A zinc supplement or a multi-vitamin may also help to improve the condition.

Other forms of treatment for acne rosacea include the use of anti-inflammatory antibiotic creams and in severe cases, surgery to repair the damaged blood vessels. Treatments can range in effectiveness depending upon your type of skin and the severity of the condition. However, in all cases, the hardest part is to treat the redness of the skin. It can also take a couple of months after treatment has begun for your skin to show an improvement.

Its also important to remember that medical treatment for acne vulgaris can irritate acne rosacea causing the symptoms to deteriorate significantly. So if youre unlucky enough to have both acne vulgaris and acne rosacea at the same time, you should bear this in mind.br

When my friend Sid was small he used to get pimples. His brothers used to get acne pimples as well but they were lucky because their acne used to disappear quickly. He was the unlucky one because he used to get a new one almost every other day. Everyone told him that once he will reach the age of 25 they will go away, and they did but unfortunately then he contracted with rosacea, i.e. adult acne.

He used to get patchy-redness and sudden flushing all the time, sometimes he had a pimple or two but his skin used to remain oily all the time. He used to wash his face every couple of hours with medicated soap but his face used to get oily very quickly.

The problem was that he didn’t even realize that he had rosacea ( adult Acne) for the first few years until his skin specialist diagnosed him with rosacea. He became self-conscious and used to avoid gatherings. He tried many different treatments and medicines antibiotics, Retin-A you name it he tried it including herbal treatments. Even used gram flour and orange peel, which his grandma prepared and forced him to used but nothing worked for him.

First I had Acne and now adult acne, what is the problem with me? The question he used to ask himself and to everyone else almost everyday for which the answer we still don’t know.

He tried different creams and changed his skin specialist again and again to find the right one. But unfortunately nothing and no one could help him. This is because what causes rosacea is still unknown. It is still a mystery even for some doctors that which rosacea treatment is actually right for someone who has rosacea. It’s not that treatments do not work with rosacea, some treatments work well, but which one is the right one is a million dollar question.

Until one day when his mum’s ever increasing criticism became unbearable he stopped using soap, drinking more water and he started washing his face only with warm water. In his own words the first 3 weeks were terrible for him. He could not go out, he could not face anyone. I think it was just his imagination that he looked awful but after that his face accepted water and the oiliness of his face started to decline. It took about 2 months before his face started to remain dry and he got rid of oiliness.

The flushing was still the big problem for him. Even though he promised himself that he will not used any new treatment but a sudden flare-up still made him look around for treatments. Then he discovered Jojoba Oil, which was a turning point and a true-life saver for him, that’s what he says about the oil. It took about a week before his face actually accepted the oil. The best thing was the application of Jojoba oil was simple, just warm water a drop of pure jojoba oil every morning and evening and his face redness started to decline. Nowadays he doesn’t get sudden flare-ups.

I hope that some people who are suffering from acne rosacea, if increase the use of water and use jojoba oil instead of experimenting on new medicated soaps and creams then they might help them with their rosacea problem.
