If you have any health complications or are pregnant it is always best to ask your doctor or physician first before attempting any change in diet.

In 90% of acne patients food can be the main cause of acne. The remaining 10% is due to hormones (teenagers etc.).

Avoid eating the following food groups (or at least eat less):

1. Meats

Meats like lamb, beef, pork and chicken.

2. Processed Meats

These foods include prepacked meats like lunch or deli meats, ham, bacon and hotdogs.

Side effects

Excessive protein is highly acidifying. This encourages the growth of acne causing bacteria and parasites.

Alternative

Eat more fish, organic meats or chemical free chicken.

3. Diary Products

This includes milk, cheese and ice cream. One exception is yogurt, which is good for your digestive system (gut).

Side effects

All diary products are highly mucus forming that lines the small intestine. This causes your body to absorb less nutrients from the food you eat. Dairy products also slow down the digestion of other foods causing bacteria to putrefy them.

Getting rid of mucus

Fruit and vegetables have sponge-like properties that clean the small intestine. Grapes and citrus fruits are the best mucus cleaners.

Alternatives

Drink powder milk, soy milk, rice milk, grain milk or nut milk.

Diary and meats contain no fiber so your digestive system works more slowly (slow transit). This causes toxins to be absorbed into the body. Some of these toxins are secreted through the skin causing acne. All the foods above are acid forming in the body.

The body prefers to run slightly alkaline. To get rid of acne you can eat alkaline forming foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts (sparingly) and seeds.
