One of the most treatable skin conditions is actually acne. There are many varying treatments available for your pimples right now that are created for the most severe outbreaks down to the smallest spots and blackheads. The methods of treating your acne may include a good skin cleansing regime, medication and or skin dermabrasion.
Almost everyone is affected to some degree with acne in their lives even if they only just got a few spots here and there. Acne is often related to internal hormone changes that mostly occur during puberty. Many adults are also known to be plagued with acne well after puberty. The treatments for acne however, remain quite similar regardless of the age, gender and race of the patient.
Acne is a condition that occurs when dirt becomes trapped with bacteria within the pores of the skin. The combination of dirt and bacteria cause friction in the pore and this causes the infection. When the body tries to heal the infection, it scabs over forming a bump on the skin. Under the skin inside this bump, pus forms to heal the infected area.
Because dirt and germs are the biggest culprits of acne, cleansing the skin is probably the very best of all acne treatments. The skin is actually the largest of all our organs and it protects our body from internal infections. For all the jobs that it undertakes, for some people it is actually the most sensitive part of the body. Cleansing the skin regularly will help to get rid of dirt from the pores.
Cleansing your skin with OTC products can actually cause more irritation than just using plain old warm water. This is due to the many harsh additives added to these skin cleansers. Be sure to choose one that is free of fragrance and hypoallergenic. Two well-known brands that are really effective at cleansing the skin mildly are Aquaphor and Cetaphil.
For those that do not get much relief of their acne with cleansing alone, a doctor can prescribe you strong medication or you may opt for less powerful over the counter products. The most common products are in the form of creams, pads and lotions. Alcohol is a common ingredient of these products and may cause irritation in some. If you get any form of irritation you will need to find a more milder treatment for yourself.
Dermatologists can also prescribe you medications for your acne, especially oral ones. They will only give you these if you have severe acne though. With almost all oral medications, there are going to be some side-effects. You will need to weigh these up before making a final decision. These medications are intended to stop the severe acne from leaving behind noticeable scarring.
If you are left with any type of scarring after your acne has gone, you can purchase many creams that aid the healing process in the skin or you may want to consider dermabrasion that can speed up the creation of new skin cells while getting rid of the scarred skin. Dermabrasion will remove the upper layer of your skin that reveals healthier less scarred skin underneath.
