Acne has long been a blight not just to teenagers but to people of all ages. This skin problem is a moderately serious type of inflammation caused by bacteria and blocked pores. It results in an unappealing appearance and in some cases, scarring.
There are plenty of skin care products in the market that claim to effectively treat acne. Now, dont get your hopes too high, as most of these products dont show results until at least a couple of weeks after you use it. Even if the product you choose has the right ingredients, results may not be seen for as long as a month. The best thing to do is to first consult a dermatologist – you need to have your skin analyzed before you use any skin care product. You see, most anti-acne products contain harsh ingredients that you may have an allergic reaction to. The product you use may even do you more harm. The acne product may also react negatively to any medications you are taking.
There are soaps, creams and gels that contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide that kill acne-causing bacteria. You can also look into non-comedogenic moisturizers to fight dryness and prevent the clogging of the pores. There are also exfoliating agents that remove the top layer of the skin. These usually contain glycolic acid and salicylic acid, which are strong peeling agents.
Other options also include antibiotic creams that contain lymecycline, clindamyycine and minocycline. There are also retinoids (containing adapalene, tazarotene and tertinoin) that help to follicles gone awry to normalize and go easy on the irritation.
As a last word, be reminded that you should not take matters into your own hand. Consult a doctor so that you know the right dosage or level of usage.
